Prescription finasteride (sold under the name Propecia) and at-home laser treatments, such as the FDA-approved HairMax Ultima 12 LaserComb, have also been shown to be effective. The key to halting your hairline is ultimately finding a hair loss regimen that works for you. A doctor is your best bet for that kind of guidance — but we can definitely tell you which treatments your scalp (and your wallet) should steer clear of.
Products that are certified as safe or healthy by a credible third-party (e.g., EPA Design for the Environment) rate 10. If the relevant certification involves a comprehensive evaluation and approval of a product’s formulation, those ingredients’ contribution to a product’s Health Hazard Rating will also be suppressed.
If your hair loss is caused by an underlying disease, treatment for that disease will be necessary. This may include drugs to reduce inflammation and suppress your immune system, such as prednisone. If a certain medication is causing the hair loss, your doctor may advise you to stop using it for at least three months.

Finasteride (Propecia): This medication is FDA approved for use in only men with androgenic hair loss. Finasteride is in a class of medications called 5-alpha reductase inhibitors. It is thought to help reduce hair loss by blocking the action of natural hormones in scalp hair follicles. Propecia is a lower-dose version of a commercially available drug called Proscar that helps shrink enlarged prostates in middle-aged and older men. Women of child-bearing potential should avoid finasteride. Propecia 1 mg tablets are available by prescription and taken once daily. Propecia may grow and thicken hair to some extent for some people, but its main use is to keep (maintain) hair that’s still there. Studies have shown that this medication works well in some types of hair loss and must be used for about six to 12 months before full effects are determined. This medication does not “work” in days to weeks, and its onset of visible improvement tends to be gradual. It may be best for men who still have enough hair to retain but also can help some regrow hair. Possible but very unlikely side effects include impotence or a decreased sex drive (libido). Studies have shown that these side effects were possibly slightly more common than seen in the general population and are reversible when the drug is stopped. The cost is about $70-$100/month, which is generally not reimbursed by most health insurers.
I am actually a female but would love to hear your thoughts about the side effects of using minoxidil on skin. Supposedly it impairs collagen production and so speeds up the appearance of wrinkles. Is that true? Is there anything to support that or to disprove that? That is literally the ONLY reason why I am not using minoxidil like… RIGHT now!
Thanks. My shedding still hasn’t stopped. Now on month 14 of propecia, + keto + minox. I talked to my Dr about trying DUT . . . he said no given it isn’t FDA approved. But I’m thinking of increasing my dose of propocia from 1.25mg (1/4 of a proscar pill) to 2.5mg (so take half a pill. Anything wrong with doing that???
Dr. Melissa Piliang, a dermatologist at the Cleveland Clinic, said that Rogaine works better on the top and crown (for reasons not fully understood, the frontal hairline tends to be more resistant to treatment) and ideally should be started as soon as women notice thinning. “Any regrowth you get is a minimal amount,” Dr. Piliang said. “So the more density when you start, the better results you get.”
Before going to bed put oil in a small container. The quantity of the oil should be in proportion to the length and density of your hair so as to be applicable on your complete hair. Apply oil on the tip of your fingers and rub it gently on the base of your hair enabling it to penetrate in to the roots of your hair. Let the oil gradually seep into roots of your hair & nourish them for the whole night.Do not apply on your palms and rub it vigorously as it may uproot weak hair. Slow application and massage of hair only would yield better results. The oil may be removed in the morning with washing of hair with a mild shampoo which does not contain chemicals
If you are experiencing hair turning white and falling out, make sure you do not have a dental infection. If your teeth are bad, your hair will fall out. Sometimes in circles of white hair that fall out. In any case, it can be a warning sign to check your teeth. And or see a doctor. Some folks just have bad hair. Shave it off. No worries!
There are many hair growth products that work for both men and women and that’s why I like to acknowledge this article. Undoubtedly, the best way to promote hair growth is to oversee the intake of the essential vitamins which enhance healthy hair growth. I’ve met so many products also, in the likes of Viviscal, TRX2, Neurkrin or Rogaine and they are also very productive (remember, if you have bad experience with hair growth products, then you should start worrying about your psychological situation, hormones or unhealthy lifestyle and diet)!
8. Vitamin E – Vitamin E also encourages circulation in the body and helps grow new blood vessels, which helps hair to grow. Opening a vitamin E capsule and applying the gel inside to hair follicles can prevent hair loss and balding.
Most people assume that male pattern baldness is genetic. This may be true, but we must not discount the environmental elements, which are often similar from generation to generation. This means that the behaviors and diet habits of a bald man can be passed on to his son and it may be THOSE that make the hair loss to APPEAR genetic. It could be merely a lifestyle that is so similar that the baldness is similarly induced! For example, a love of greasy foods, which are known to block the small capillaries to the scalp, can be passed on from a father to his son. Is the son’s baldness genetic, or does he just have bad scalp circulation?
