“The best candidate for hair restoration surgery has had hair loss for a number of years but has stabilized and is not losing more hair quickly,” Kaufman says. “A person needs to have realistic expectations of what can be done to give them a natural appearing hair line.”
A very important nutrient for hair health is iron. A low number of red blood cells in the body can cause iron-deficiency anemia, therefore making it necessary to eat iron-rich foods. Other reasons for anemia induced hair loss can be that of your body not properly absorbing the nutrients, loss of blood, pregnancy, illness, etc.
PRESCRIPTION REMEDIES: If you don’t respond to minoxidil, your doctor might prescribe antiandrogen medications, which may slow hair loss and even stimulate growth in some women. “They inhibit male hormones that can exacerbate hair loss,” explains Dr. Mirmirani. In select cases, she may prescribe finasteride, a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor, which blocks an enzyme that regulates the production of androgens. Because the medication causes birth defects, it is FDA approved only for men. “In premenopausal women who are no longer childbearing, finasteride can be used off label,” Dr. Mirmirani notes.
The benefits of rice water for the skin and hair were a well-kept secret of the Asian countries. It contains vitamins E, K, and B6 and proteins that nourish the scalp and hair. This can, in turn, improve hair growth and make your hair voluminous (26).

Nizoral should be used in conjunction with finasteride and minoxidil. Don’t use it on its own and expect to see huge results. In studies, men with MPB who were using Nizoral lost significantly fewer hairs over the months compared to those who weren’t. So don’t expect to regrow hair using it, but rest assured you hair loss progression is drastically slowed down.
“Hair cloning is something this has been called, but we are not real keen on the word cloning. We are not creating a whole new organism, but it is a duplication process. … We are taking follicular stem cells — cells that have capacity of creating new follicle — and packaging them into follicle-inducing implants. ”
Stress and hair loss don’t have to be permanent. If you get your stress under control, your hair may grow back. Be sure to talk to your doctor if you notice sudden or patchy hair loss or more than usual hair loss when combing or washing your hair. Sudden hair loss can signal an underlying medical condition that requires treatment. If needed, your doctor may suggest treatment options for the hair loss as well. And if efforts to manage your stress on your own don’t work, talk to your doctor about stress management techniques.
Indian gooseberry (amla) is well recognized as the powerhouse of vitamin C and antioxidants. Thus it helps in production of collagen and also fights off free radicals promoting hair growth and even improving pigmentation of your hair. You can simply mix 2 teaspoons each of amla powder and lime juice and rub this on your scalp. After some time, rinse with warm water. This will help your hair grow. There is, however, another herbal remedy using amla which can promote faster hair growth by making your hair long, strong and shiny. For this you’ll have to make a shampoo at home using amla, shikakai and reetha.
Regrowth treatment is a growth stimulator but can only stimulate growth in areas where previously hair grew and while it is FDA approved to halt hair loss and or regrow hair in those with genetically driven hair loss it can improve the density of existing hair but cannot grow hair in areas where there never has been hair
Derma roller may be a good hair loss treatment for others but results may vary. Needles sticking in your skin is still a different matter and needs to be given enough thought before using. The idea of using one is to open up closed pores to take in nutrients for a healthier outcome.
Hi Fun guy, the 5% regrowth has been shown to work best in those with mild to moderate hair loss. If you still have some very fine hairs on top it could help but takes 2-3 months to see results starting. If you very little hair left, the hair follicles may be too damaged to stimulate regrowth. You may want to consider talking with a Bosley INC counselor who can asses your level of thinning and discuss other medical options
Women with diffuse androgenetic alopecia can use minoxidil and it actually seems to be more effective for women compared to men. The makers of minoxidil recommend women only use the 2% concentration of minoxidil and not 5%. The makers of minoxidil have not received FDA approval for promoting 5% minoxidil or minoxidil extra strength for use by women. Many dermatologists do prescribe minoxidil 5% for women with androgenetic alopecia if used under their supervision. Some small clinical trials have been conducted on 5% minoxidil for androgenetic alopecia in women showing that indeed the 5% solution is significantly more effective in both retaining and regrowing hair than the 2 % solution.
