Finasteride was originally created to fight prostate cancer. It works by decreasing the amount of a hormone called DHT in the scalp. DHT appears to cause hair follicles in the scalp to become thinner, so by decreasing the levels of DHT, hair regrowth may increase and hair loss may slow down.
No sulfates, parabens, or other harsh chemicals to worry about! There are no frills about this shampoo, just a simple formula with ingredients that have been proven to work without anything unnecessary.
The comment about Dutasteride causing more side effects is not correct. All studies performed to this date actually sight that Dutasteride has lower side effects. Especially in regards to decreases in sex drive. The only time Dutasteride has been shown to have greater side effects is when the dosage of Finasteride was well below the recommended dosage of 1mg. In comparison 500mcg of Dutasteride has been shown to be more effective than 2.5mg of Finasteride and 1mg has shown to be more effective than 5mg of Finasteride, the dose used to treat BPH. The research has clearly shown that Dutasteride reduces serum DHT levels much faster and has much higher success rates.
During the first ten days, some of the transplanted hairs, inevitably traumatized by their relocation, may fall out. This is referred to as “shock loss”. After two to three months new hair will begin to grow from the moved follicles. The patient’s hair will grow normally, and continue to thicken through the next six to nine months. Any subsequent hair loss is likely to be only from untreated areas. Some patients elect to use medications to retard such loss, while others plan a subsequent transplant procedure to deal with this eventuality.
What is your opinion on laser combs? I went to the Men’s Club yesterday and they recommended I spend ~$800 to buy a laser band, comb or hat. What is your opinion on how those work? Sounds like snake oil to me. They also recommended I go to my dermatologist to get a prescription to reduce sebum in my hair. I have been on Fin for 11 months, Minox foam 1x/day yet hair shed hasn’t stopped. I do have a prescription for Ketoconazole shampoo but rarely use it. I read in your article that this shampoo does help with Sebum build up so I will try that. Any other recommendations for sebum reduction?

Just drink as much water as you can. When taking water soluble vitamins/minerals such as Biotin, you have to increase your water intake more than usual, otherwise one can experience breakouts, stomach aches, or, in your case, headaches.
Because a transplant leaves an unnatural hairline if your hair loss progresses. And I don’t know what would happen if you would somehow manage to grow your hair back (hypothetically, using future treatments). Don’t know about DHI.
Thank you for this article! I’m a 17 year old girl who once had beautiful, thick, shiny and healthy hair, but now my hair is thin and is still thinning out even more. I’m losing alot of hair it’s really ruining my self esteem. I don’t really live a healthy life (your typical teenage life – lots of junk food and no exercising). I have a major lack of vitamin D and I rarely eat healthy food or fruits. Now I’ve started noticing the effect this life style has on my apperance (so far only the hair has been affected). I also used to iron and curl my hair alot for 3 years, but I’ve stopped with that 2 years ago. Now my question is – is it possible for me to regrow my hair as it used to be? 2 years ago people around me started noticing the hair thinning, and it has obly gotten worse since then. Will changing my lifestyle get my hair back to its original look? Worth mentioning: my mother’s side have alot of hair loss problems (due to genetics), but they have thin hair when young and it gets thinner and thinner fast. My father’s side don’t have any hair loss problems and my hair was like theirs before it started thinning. Is there a possible chance that my genetics decided to change or something like that, and therefore I might be experiencing hair loss due to genetics? My sister has naturally thin hair (like my mother’s side), whereas I had thick (like my father’s side) – that’s why I’ve got a hope that my problem is not genetics and could be solved.
Omega-3 clings to the hair shaft and cell membranes in the scalp, where it strengthens your hair follicles and encourages growth. It also makes your hair less brittle, so strands around your hairline will be less likely to break off as they grow back.
Minoxidil, by far the most popular hair loss treatment in the US, encourages hair growth through a far different mechanism. Proponents of the topical ointment claim it widens blood vessels and other pathways to allow more oxygen and proteins to reach the follicles and stimulate hair growth. But it is effective for only about 40% of people.
Some doctors prescribe Avodart off-label (meaning to treat something other than illnesses or conditions listed on the drug’s label) to patients suffering from male-pattern baldness. Dutasteride, the active ingredient in Avodart, like finasteride, is used to treat enlarged prostate glands, but it blocks both types of the enzyme that create DHT, instead of just one. Studies show that dutasteride is superior to finasteride in treating AGA, but it has yet to be approved by the FDA for that purpose.
Besides Minoxidil, Lipogaine contains other ingredients that are effective to the hair loss treatment process, including its herbal DHT-blocker blend of saw palmetto extract, beta-sitosterol, oleic acid, linolenic acid, and apple polyphenol. It also includes Biotin and vitamins B6 and B12, among other ingredients and nutrients.

This 8 fl. oz. conditioner contains Jojoba oil, which acts as a cleanser of excess sebum on the scalp. It also helps in the circulation of blood in the scalp, which promotes faster and better hair growth.
“It’s extremely promising,” said Spencer Kobren, founder of the independent American Hair Loss Association, “but I don’t want to say it’s the greatest thing since sliced bread.” Because P.R.P. varies so much, it can be hard to know what one is getting, and some doctors “ride on the vulnerability of women,” he said.
If you would like to stimulate new hair growth, it’s worth looking into shampoos with Argan oil like this one below. Argan oil is great for a number of reasons. It helps produce keratin, enhances blood circulation, moisturizes the scalp, and gently helps balance hormone levels in the skin.

Our obsession with our hair reaches a whole new level when we start losing it. What we could once bend (or straighten or color) to our will feels suddenly, terrifyingly beyond our control. Or is it? Many of the causes of hair loss — crash dieting, reactions to medications — are temporary; address the underlying issue and your hair will grow back. Unfortunately, the most common culprit, genetic female pattern hair loss, is chronic. But you don’t have to operate at a loss.
Other cases for hair loss are caused by illnesses, childbirth, and pregnancy. For best results, continue seeking other solutions, such as undergoing light therapy, applying natural oils, using hair growth shampoos, and taking supplements. Be extra careful in choosing your mode of treatment if you are pregnant.
Dont worry hair loss is a natural phenomenon and it cannot be sopped…but delayed. Get rid of dandruff with the help of a doctor. Eat a lot of vegetables, Stop smoking and avoid abusing your hair with all the latest shampoos. You have a thousand plus solutions off the shelf but they are all fake including hair transplant – they only fleece money. Drink a lot of water and get to meet a good doctor. CUTIS on BVK Ivyengar Road, Bangalore is a good place to visit. I have known many cases of hair fall stop & regrowth. You need to stick to the prescription without fail.
Rub olive oil into your skin. Olive oil can make your scalp grow hair back naturally by cleaning out your pores. Dead skin, dirt and sweat build up in your hair follicles every day, and they become clogged. Olive oil can flush the dirt and dead skin from your hair follicles so they can grow hair again. Put a few drops of olive oil into your hand and massage into your scalp.
The device is lightweight, comfortable, and durable. You simply set it on the top of your head, turn it on, and then let it complete its cycle (about 25 minutes). About 70 percent of men and 40 percent of women go through some degree of hair thinning as they age, almost usually as a result of androgenic alopecia (AGA), otherwise known as male or female pattern baldness. Though a number of products and treatments currently exist to fight back against hair loss, a so-called permanent “cure” would probably be one of the most exciting scientific discoveries to come along in a long time, right behind fat-free bacon and unlosable house keys. But is such a cure actually even possible? And if so, just how far from it are we?
