Men’s Rogaine Unscented Foam and its sister, Women’s Rogaine Foam, are our top picks. They’re both safe, non-prescription, and easily available. They are identical formulas in different bottles — ladies, apparently, need something with a flower on it. (Costco’s Kirkland Signature Regrowth Treatment Minoxidil Foam for Men is the cheapest generic.) The most important part of their ingredients list is minoxidil, a topical drug that has been clinically proven to slow hair loss and even regrow some hair.
Congenital Hypotrichosis: This type of hair loss generally affects a person at birth and usually stays with them for the length of their lives. The majority of cases of this kind of hair loss are caused by genetic defects.
I am 13, I need to grow out my hair. But I hear many people have acne issues due to biotin. Acne isn’t really a problem for me, but I hate it so muuucccchhhhhh. I am also a bit worried to use coconut oil for the inversion method because of my age my skin is oily already. Any ideas?
Nizoral A-D prevents the flaking, itching, and scaling associated with dandruff. As it turns out, ketoconazole is an effective dandruff fighter as well as taming fungus and inflammation on your scalp.
Hi Smita, Great to hear you are going to try the inversion method, let me know how it goes and don’t forget to measure it before and after. I don’t have any pics but I am definitely going to take some the next time I do the inversion method and add them to this post. I also get a lot of hair loss, try massaging very lightly and reduce the amount of times you wash your hair every week. Perhaps try washing your hair every 2 days?
The study suggests you’ll get the best benefit before you shampoo, as the fatty oil keeps water from penetrating the shaft of your strands, preventing breakage. Warm up unrefined coconut oil (more nutrients!) between your hands and work into strands until your hair looks wet. If you suffer from dandruff or other scalp conditions, go ahead and slather the stuff there, too. Pop on a shower cap and relax for 20-30 minutes once a week before washing. Along with stronger, longer hair, you’ll also be left with weightless, non-greasy volume, says Masson. (Here are 10 more coconut oil beauty treatments you’ll love.)
As the article points out, our hair is a reflection of the health of our entire body! Vitamin D is included in many supplements, but nothing beats getting at least some of your daily supply right from the source when the weather is nice.

I never have time to do all of the hair masks or all of that crap with school, but I’m considering using the flip your hair forward strategy. I mean, it seems pretty obvious, quick, and easy, so I’m going to try it. Y’all should try it. Also I put my nickname at school as my name bc I tend to get very angry very easily so my friends gave me that name.
Light treatments are ideal for hair with a bit more damage. They often come in form of a deep conditioner. Deep penetrating treatments are best for fairly damaged hair. Reconstructors are used to encourage quick growth in severely damaged hair.
Once a week, I apply a DIY protein mask. To try it, combine an egg white, 1 tablespoon of castor oil, half a banana, 1 tablespoon of honey, and 2 tablespoons of plain yogurt. Mash the ingredients together into a paste-like consistency and apply it to the entire scalp and hair. Leave on for 30 minutes or longer under a warm head bonnet and towel and rinse with warm water and a very small amount of a mild pH balanced shampoo.
Hi Jennifer! Here’s what I did while using the inversion method. First, do know that you don’t “have” to use the oil, it is just recommended. When I did the inversion method on no-poo, here’s what I did. I made a double recipe of baking soda mixture and acid mixture. Like, I made a quart size jar full of both. I used half of the baking soda mixture and massaged and washed as best as I could, and then I rinsed. Then I washed with the rest of the mixture. This got the oil out of my hair every time. Make sure not to forget the acid rinse afterward, and be sure to moisturize the ends somehow when you’re out of the shower.

I know this is not really part of the article, but if my hair has lots of split ends that reaches to my scalp, do I have no choice but to chop it off? My hair is at shoulder length and it has been like that for 2 years and it’s the same length. My hair is not that fried but it’s pretty damaged. I did the unthinkable and I chopped off the side hairs underneath to let them grow healthy and fresh again. It kinda looks stupid now but will this help me of getting the short hairs long again? Any tips?
Hey , Thanks for the AWESOME advice there . (; But I was wondering .. Does tieing up your hair really cause Hair breakage ? Some sites says it does cause breakage and other sites says tieing up your hair is healthy , and it makes it grow faster ?
Hair is a protein fiber (as are nails), which means you need to eat protein to grow new strands and keep the existing ones strong. Protein is also required to produce keratin, a key structural component of hair.

As a natural alternative to Rogaine, essential oils may be worth a try. In one small study, alopecia areata patients massaged rosemary, peppermint, thyme, and lavender in a mixture of jojoba or grapeseed oil into their scalps daily, while a control group used only the oils. Forty-four percent of the in the essential oils group showed improvement, compared to just 15% of the control group. Talk to your dermatologist before you try either minoxidil or essential oils on your scalp.
Hi Caroline, really sorry to hear what happened with your hair – I bet it was painful! Have you tried a clip-in fringe for the time being? They look realistic and will help hide the spot. You could try some scalp massage when the skin has healed too.
To help boost the method and give your hair an intensive moisturising treatment, every other day or for a few days during the seven, use a natural oil like Coconut Oil, Olive Oil or Argan Oil whilst massaging. If you can, leave it in overnight in a shower cap. More on these oils later.

Alopecia areata is an autoimmune condition in which the body attacks its own hair follicles. Most patients, however, do not have systemic problems and need no medical tests. While alopecia areata is frequently blamed on “stress,” in fact, it may be the other way around; that is, having alopecia may cause stress.

One particular vitamin that can be of assistance is vitamin E. A vital vitamin for encouraging blood circulation in the scalp will insure the right nutrients get to the follicles for better growth. Vitamins E can be found in most leafy green vegetables. The downside to this is people not eating enough vegetables will not obtain the required amounts of vitamins needed.
Clipper the hair on the sides and back of your head with a number-two guard every other week for six weeks. Attach the number-two blade to the clippers and place it at the bottom of the hairline. Slide the clippers up the head, pulling out slightly at the curve of the head to blend the shorter hairs with the longer hairs on top of the head.
Getting rid of all the gunk gives roots and hair follicles the room it needs to breath and grow properly. Chemicals not only cause breakage, but the roots of the hair to suffocate; to grow, hair needs a clean, PH balanced environment. Natural hair girls have to worry about that more.”
Ways to use: Amla juice with coconut oil or amla oil for a head massage. You can also use amla powder in a hair pack. But the most effective option is to eat fresh or dried amla every day. I have another good option – I take 1tsp amla powder with a glass of water every morning – It’s one of the best detox drink you can find.
The only topical treatment that has been approved by the FDA for hair loss in women is minoxidil, better known by the brand name Women’s Rogaine ($44 for a 4-month supply; amazon.com). “Topical minoxidil is the gold standard standard of treatment,” Dr. Zeichner says. “It helps lengthen the active growing stage of hairs and promotes healthy delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the hair follicle.”
Try aloe vera juice and neem paste. Many think that this treatment can control hair fall. While more scientific research needs to be done in order to prove that this is an effective treatment, aloe vera is thought to increase blood flow wherever it’s applied, and neem paste may have many hair benefits, including promoting growth, hydrating, and keeping the scalp healthy.
