I finally gave in and started taking propecia (1.25mg/day) ~15 weeks ago as Rogaine clearly wasn’t going to stop my hair falling out . . . . .the good thing is that I have had ZERO side affects. In fact it also seemed (so I thought) to stop my hair loss for the first 4 weeks or so. However for the last 6 weeks or so, i have been losing hair faster than ever before. I have read that this common typically between the third and fourth month of taking this. Have you heard anything like that? I hope that is the case and it slows soon. I have continued Rogaine liquid twice a day as well as dandruff shampoo a few times a week.
The product consists of absolutely natural ingredients that helps in stopping hair fall and promotes hair growth. All you need to do is spray the treatment on your scalp. Make sure that you do it from 8-10 inches.

GET A VOLUMIZING CUT: In most cases, shorter cuts are kinder to thinning hair. “The longer your hair grows, the more likely it is that sections will separate and reveal your scalp,” explains Mancuso. Whatever length you choose, ask for interior layers, which are placed throughout your cut, not just on the ends, to add fullness.
Since birth control pills decrease the production of ovarian androgens, they can be used to treat women’s androgenetic alopecia. Keep in mind, however, that the same cautions must be followed whether a woman takes contraceptive pills solely to prevent contraception or to treat female pattern baldness. For example, smokers over thirty-five who take “the pill” are at higher risk for blood clots and other serious conditions. Discuss your medical and lifestyle history thoroughly with your doctor. Contraceptive pills come in various hormonal formulations, and your doctor can determine which is right for your specific needs, switching pills if necessary until you are physically and emotionally comfortable with the formulation. Note: Only low androgen index birth control pills should be used to treat hair loss. High androgen index birth control pills actually contribute to hair loss by triggering it or enabling it once it’s been triggered by something else.
Genetics is rarely a factor in female hair loss. Usually female pattern baldness is caused by hormonal imbalance. These could be brought on by stress or by normal events like pregnancy, or menopause or even side effects of medications, such as birth control. One cannot rule out possible hair damage caused by harsh shampoos, perms or hair coloring products. But the MOST common cause of hair loss in women is hypothyroidism. This is where there is a lack of thyroid hormone in the body. This can affect the body’s metabolism, cell growth and absorption of nutrients, which indirectly can have an effect on your hair.
For me, I have chosen not to use this any longer even though I was starting to see regrowth. Since I stopped using this my face has slowly started to shed the puffiness features and the large dark bags/circles have started to diminish but it is slow to regain my “old face.”
Message for Michelle who wrote on 7/25/2010, I have exactly same problem as you, lots of hair gradually thinning over time, now really showing on top of my head and all over. Want to know where you went to get advice from. Who’s your naturopathic specialist? Where did you get your hair [@]ysis done? Im in the uk. email me [email protected]
Scalp reduction surgery literally reduces the amount of scalp. Balding areas are surgically removed and replaced by stretching hair-filled scalp in its place. Bald spots can also be folded over into a flap.
Possibly. But since they (both) don’t provide miracle results, I wouldn’t recommend it. Why risk losing regrown hair? If you get tired of applying minoxidil twice a day, do it just once per day. It still works.
When we spoke with Sarah, a Rogaine nurse, she explained that the different packaging (and therefore different prices) has to do with the FDA-approval process. “We discovered in clinical trials that the hair loss patterns between men and women are different,” she said by way of explanation. “Men typically have that bald spot on the crown of their head, where women generally have a general thinning throughout, but concentrated more on the top of the head. So for FDA approval, we had to come up with two different, gender-specific products, so the directions were more explanatory.”
Some other causes of hair loss in women can be syphilis, autoimmune disorders, chemotherapy, hair shaft abnormalities, etc. A proper diagnosis by a doctor will help you identify the reason behind your hair loss.
The past 6 month I have being taking dietary supplements, using Revivogen spray nightly, Lipogaine topic solution 2 times a day, I use Lipogaine shampoo on mondays, wednedays and fridays and the other days I use the Revivogen Shampoo and Conditioner.
Healthy hair growth is possible only if your diet contains enough amount of proteins in it. If, for some reason, your protein intake is low, opt for a protein powder that can supply your body (and hair) with the protein and other nutrients that it requires. Purchase a protein powder with natural ingredients and drink it as directed on the bottle.
I am actually a female but would love to hear your thoughts about the side effects of using minoxidil on skin. Supposedly it impairs collagen production and so speeds up the appearance of wrinkles. Is that true? Is there anything to support that or to disprove that? That is literally the ONLY reason why I am not using minoxidil like… RIGHT now!
In clinical studies of mostly white women aged 18-45 years with mild to moderate degrees of hair loss, the following response to 2% minoxidil topical solution was reported: 19% of women reported moderate hair regrowth after using 2% minoxidil topical solution for 8 months (19% had moderate regrowth; 40% had minimal regrowth). This compares with 7% of women reporting moderate hair regrowth after using the placebo, the liquid without minoxidil in it, for 8 months (7% had moderate regrowth; 33% had minimal regrowth).
Coffee contains caffeine that works at the molecular and cellular levels to improve hair growth. It enhances the production of factors that regulate hair growth and improves it (34). Alopecia patients also use caffeine for hair growth because of its high potency.
We mentioned Minoxidil above as a topical treatment to encourage new hair growth. It works moderately well in about 19% of users. Hair transplants may work for some people, but if you have female pattern hair loss, that’s usually not an option.
I noticed I was going bald, I panicked and turned the internet upside down in search of a solution and tried lots of products and weird things but none worked. a friend who used to tease me about the hair (in a bid to tease me further) bought a product from Africa during his travels and he mockingly gave me as a present.I tried it and the result is unbelievable. infact he had to call his contacts in Africa to get in touch with the manufacturers. I know how frustrating and confidence-sapping being bald is that’s why I took this painstaking mission to reveal to any who wants to try it. you can contact the manufacturers on (***firstname.lastname@example.org)I hope this message helps.
Thanks for the great article. I am 24, started around age 19 after serious thinning and a lot of frontal hair loss. I\’ve tried everything (aloe vera, different oils, onion, amla, reetha, shikakai, methi, tulsi, honey, apple cider vinegar, garlic and vitamin r capsule) but nothing is working. So I\’ve decided to try Finasteride. Finasteride (Propecia) has made my hair loss stop completely so far. No side effects that I notice, I take half a pill every day (.5mg). My insurance didn\’t cover Finasteride. So I got it online (thanks google). My uncle gave me this keyword * STOP99BALD * and he said just Google it. Hope this helps
Telogen Effluvium: This type of hair loss is the second-most common experienced by both men and women. It is characterized by hair shedding in several areas that does not follow a specific pattern. It also tends to start suddenly and without any prior warning. This kind of hair loss often is the result of a metabolic dysfunction, hormonal stress or from using certain medications.
Under normal conditions, scalp hairs live for about three years (the anagen, or growing, phase); they then enter the telogen, or resting, phase. During the three-month telogen period, the hair root shrivels up into a small “club,” then the hair falls out. It is therefore normal to lose about 100 hairs every day, more of them on days when shampooing loosens the hairs that are ready to fall out. The hairs are then replaced by the body.
Aside from your genetics, there are several medical conditions that can result in hair loss. You will be able to address your hair loss by treating the underlying condition. The following conditions could lead to hair loss:
Thank you for the valuable info! I absolutely agree that the proper hair care and nutrition are more important than anything else. The everyday stress can also cause thinning hair and loss, it is essential to balance our lifestyle and diet to ensure that the healthy hair gets the needed nutrients. Natural hair growth doesn’t happen overnight!
Indeed, finasteride (also known as Propecia) works by lowering the body’s levels of the hormone DHT, which binds to receptors in hair follicles at the top of the scalp, causing them to gradually shrink and lose the ability to grow thick hair.

We’re sad to hear about your hair. It’s going to take a little while to grow back healthy, but it will most likely bounce back in time. After all, hair usually grows around 6 inches per year. In the meantime, try using a gentle shampoo that doesn’t have sulfates—like PURA D’OR or Art Naturals’ Argan Oil. Use conditioner and let it sit for a couple of minutes on your hair before you rinse it. Leave-in conditioners with Argan oil can help your hair grow back faster and healthier and keep it from tangling. Try to not brush your hair when it’s dry, only when it’s damp, and use a brush or comb that doesn’t tangle or pull out strands. Get a head massage to get the blood flowing. You may want to see a different stylist to trim off any split ends in a couple of months.
Since the FDA pulled every 10-15% minoxidil and anything containing azelaic acid, the golden days of minoxidil products with added DHT blocking substances are over, and a lot of people went back to using regular 5% minoxidil.
This sounds like it will work. A lot of my friends have the same length of hair as me(short or abit lower than average). But I want my hair to be a bit longer. Or grow a bit faster. So hopefully this works and thx for these tips?
