Strip harvesting will leave a thin linear scar in the donor area, which is typically covered by a patient’s hair even at relatively short lengths. The recovery period is around 2 weeks and will require the stitches/staples to be removed by medical personnel or sub cuticular suturing can be done.
Hi ma’am. I am a 22 year old guy. I started noticing that my hair is falling 2 months ago, but I didn’t pay a lot of attention since I thought that’s normal because we loose 50 to 100 hair a day. Recently my hair started to fall a lot more that I can now see my scalp. Every two months I go to the hairdresser to straighten my hair with ceratine since I have very wavy hair and use hair dryer everyday and add wax. Is that the problem? If I stop ceratine, hair dryer and wax and oil massage my hair will it stop falling and grow back again? Please I need your help!

You have a defined jawline, a strong brow ridge, a nice head shape and have the ability to grow a decent amount of facial hair? Then hair loss may not be a big deal in your case. You won’t lose much (if any) points in the looks department.
“Others are taking hair follicles out of human scalp and growing them with dermal papilla cells,” Cotsarelis says. “If they grow in culture, you might be able to recombine them with skin cells and form new follicles. This would let you expand the number of follicles you get for a hair transplant. This may not be that far off — five to 10 years, maybe. There’s very good evidence you will be able to do that.”
With Follicular Unit Extraction or FUE harvesting, individual follicular units containing 1 to 4 hairs are removed under local anesthesia; this micro removal typically uses tiny punches of between 0.6mm and 1.0mm in diameter. The surgeon then uses very small micro blades or fine needles to puncture the sites for receiving the grafts, placing them in a predetermined density and pattern, and angling the wounds in a consistent fashion to promote a realistic hair pattern. The technicians generally do the final part of the procedure, inserting the individual grafts in place.
One way you can do this is by washing your hair using shampoo containing Ketoconazole. There have been positive customer reviews that washing your hair using Ketoconazole helps to lower the rate at which hair loss happens. To achieve full effectiveness it’s recommended you use Ketoconazole shampoo frequently throughout this process of hair treatment.

Stress can be a significant factor for anyone experiencing hair loss. Stress-induced can be controlled without treatment. However, it takes time. Try to allocate yourself a more time to alleviate the stress. Yoga and some vigorous exercise can be a solution. If no change occurs, then I suggest you seek treatment given by your doctor.
Thanks for your response and awesome article! Do you recommend sticking with minoxidil for a period of time (i.e. 6 months) before starting finasteride or do it all at once? I would be on finasteride now if I wasn’t nervous about the potential side effects so my plan was to wait to see if minoxidal does anything for me over the next 3 months or so (at that point I will have been on it ~ 6 months). My shedding has certainly reduced so hopefully it is starting to work. I’m in the very early stages of hair loss. No one would notice (except me and my wife). Just looks my hair part on the top of my head even though it really is thinning.
Herbal hair oils have been an integral part of hair care in Indian traditions. Oil infused with herbs such as amla, brahmi, bhringraj, hibiscus, marigold, rosemary, lavender contain tons of polyphenols, antioxidants, phytosterols, fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals that penetrate the scalp and promote hair growth. These oils also offer anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal and anti-reddening properties that help to keep the scalp healthy and dandruff free.
While you may initially cringe at the idea of applying onion juice to your scalp – or any of your skin for that matter – consider that it is one of the best natural remedies for combating hair loss. Onions are packed full of sulfur which stimulates the production of collagen in your skin. Lack of collagen is one of the biggest causes of thinning hair, so think twice before you turn down this revitalizing albeit pungent scalp treatment. Check out this blog for a couple of excellent recipes.
It’s been found that caffeine compounds stimulate more hair growth, reduce hair loss, and prevents the negative testosterone effects on skin and hair follicles. Caffeine also extends the life span of hair follicles.
That said, it seems that spot treating with minoxidil does work (even for the front of the hair), but my concern is that I read that after a few months minoxidil can cause shedding in other parts of the hair, even when not applied to those sections. Do you know anything about this?
Rebecca, this might come a bit too late, but anyhow.. I have had bleached white hair for 3 years. Originally as a brunette, i had to bleach at the salon. Your hair care needs to start in the shower. Always use a sulfate free shampoo, it is gentler, doesn’t dry. Always follow up with a deep conditioning mask and follow by conditioner. When you are done YOU NEVER towel dry. You gently wrap your hair in the towel as if it were the most precious jewel and then take the towel off, massage in a soy based oil like the one from Sexy Hair, wrap hair in towel tightly and give it at least 15 min to suck the water out of the hair. Gently unwrap the towel, then use a cream protector from GhD or Sexy hair for extra moisture and to combat frizz. Use low temperature and speed on the dryer and dry from above, not in every direction. I prefer to use an air brush, it keeps frizz off. Make sure whatever you use is ionic technology. When you are done, rub 3 drops of soy or argan oil between your fingers and softly run them through your hair, focusing on the tips and the wild hairs at the top of your head. Buy only professional products. They are SO much better than supermarket cheap stuff.
Although this shampoo reduces hair loss significantly it’s important you know that your hair won’t grow back immediately after use. If you know a friend who knows a friend suffering from hair loss you can recommend them to use shampoos containing Ketoconazole in their hair loss treatment program.
Like the long-suffering friend who inspired her to undergo the procedure, Ms. Telford quickly saw an improvement in her hair. New hair growth usually take at least four months, but at the two-month mark, she has already spotted some baby hairs. “Not a gazillion,” she said, “but it’s a start.” She’s planning to return for follow-up treatments every six months, and has high hopes of ditching the wigs and wearing her hair in a pixie.
Cicatricial (scarring) alopecia: This rare disease develops in otherwise healthy people. The disease destroys a person’s hair follicles. Scar tissue forms where the follicles once were, so the hair cannot re-grow. Treatment tries to stop the inflammation, which destroys the hair follicles.
Hannah, I enjoyed your round-up on hair loss treatments and procedures. However, I think you may have glossed over an important fact in your discussion of modern hair transplant procedures. As with any procedure, some professionals are focused on patient comfort and others less so. The same is true with hair transplantation. In your article you make a blanket statement that hair transplants are painful and expensive, when in fact this is doctor-dependent and technique dependent. Just like producing artistic results and performing minimally-invasive FUE style of hair transplants take years and years and hundreds of cases to completely master, providing a comfortable experience to patients is the same. Hair transplant newbies or part-time surgeons are less likely to understand the nuances of patient selection, hair loss management and artistic hairline design, so too will they be more likely to perform hair transplants (and even PRP) without adequate attention to patient comfort. (I’ve heard reports that some PRP docs do scalp injections without ANY anesthesia… ouch!) In our training programs, we teach our “Ouchless Protocol” for PRP and minimally-invasive FUE Hair Transplants in addition to the other detailed nuances that most newbie surgeons forget. As more and more inexperienced surgeons enter the field of hair transplants and offer to meet patient demand, we are seeing a resurgence of MAJOR errors, unfortunately, and the need for corrective hair transplantation by ABHRS-certified hair transplant surgeons. Bottom line, a hair transplant does NOT need to be painful… in fact, most of our patients fly in for the procedure because they have heard correctly that our procedures are comfortable (even “Ouchless!” as well as being well-executed and delivering high-quality, natural results. For patients, we instruct them to do their due diligence and homework, read reviews, look for certifications, experience, expertise, watch videos and get long-distance consultations before choosing an FUE hair transplant doctor.
Too much of pollution can also result in hair fall. There are places in which amount of pollution is too much in the environment, especially in industrial belts. Also, when hair follicles get exposed to pollution constantly, their quality deteriorates and they fall.
