Most of us, when we think of hair loss, think about aging men. Nearly all men eventually get that receding M-shaped hairline and thinning hair on the top of the head, also known as male pattern baldness. It’s called androgenetic alopecia, and it’s caused by a by-product of testosterone called DHT.

Genetic hair loss, on the other hand, is largely permanent, as is any type of hair loss triggered by scarring on the scalp, says Emmanuel. Scarring can be caused by chemical hair styling services or too-tight pony tails, a problem Emmanuel sees with many African American women who are hair-loss sufferers. She adds that scarring can also be triggered by some autoimmune disorders.

“That’s the million-dollar question. I’m not sure. As it stands here, you’ve got to have some hair to pluck.” a hair growth expert told Medical News Today. “Could you tap into the pathway with a cream or injection? That could well be possible – or maybe don’t wait until you’re totally a person undergoes an intense shock, whether it be physical or emotional, this can result in a temporary thinning of hair that can last for several months after the shock. A death in the family, surgery, and sudden or excessive weight loss are all examples of trigger events that can be shocking to the body and resulting in hair thinning.

Hi Akanksha, be more gentle with yourself. Crash dieting causes lot of stress on your body and your hair gets affected too. Include coconut oil/cream in your diet. Also read this post, it will help you in the hair regrowth.

although I have plenty of hair round the sides I was rather thin on top, and quite bald on the crown. So I started using onion juice to kick start the folicles. Then after, started to use juiced ginger. After a minute or so of either application I rubbed in coconut oil, and left the mixture on for an hour or so. Problem with wishing to see the hair growth as soon as possible, hair is slow growing and new hair is even slower, so one will have to wait 3 months for a good result. So, once or twice a week use onion and the same with the ginger. I found white onions are best, grate on the smallest hole ( not much needed)…..bonus, white hair turns black.

Is it possible to regain the hairs by nailrubbing if the hairloss or baldness is happened to be a hereditary? Because in my case it is from both maternal (strong and all) and paternal (father) side. One more question, is it true that massaging with Sarso oil reduces dandruff over the scalp?

I have DHT levels at the bottom -end of the normal range, so low DHT, however I’m still going bald, so besides DHT levels it also depends greatly on the sensitivity of your hair follicles to DHT. If you have high or low levels of DHT finasteride should obviously still help you maintain your hair as the process remains the same either way.

I want to caution people against using Mintop (or minoxidil), an anti-hypertensive medication. If you read in various forum about the horrible side-effects you will want to keep away from it. Some of the side-effects of minoxidil include: redness and irritation at the treated area, unwanted hair growth, contact dermatitis, irritation of eyes, early wrinkles – it can actually age your face (read the reviews on forums), dark circles under the eyes, bloated eyelids, and many more.

Strip harvesting is the most common technique for removing hair and follicles from a donor site. The surgeon harvests a strip of skin from the posterior scalp, in an area of good hair growth. A single-, double-, or triple-bladed scalpel is used to remove strips of hair-bearing tissue from the donor site. Each incision is planned so that intact hair follicles are removed. The excised strip is about 1–1.5 x 15–30 cm in size. While closing the resulting wound, assistants begin to dissect individual follicular unit grafts, which are small, naturally formed groupings of hair follicles, from the strip. Working with binocular Stereo-microscopes, they carefully remove excess fibrous and fatty tissue while trying to avoid damage to the follicular cells that will be used for grafting. The latest method of closure is called ‘Trichophytic closure’ which results in much finer scars at the donor area.

There isn’t anything special about Lipogaine other than it contains the right ingredients that specifically help target and treat scalp inflammation, a biotin deficiency, and help kill fungus, all of which are primary reasons for hair loss in adult men and women.

Baldness, at a very young age, is a sign of unhealthy hair. Hair loss is one of the common problems seen in today’s generation. There are several causes, like frequent hair wash, lack of nutrition, stress, etc. behind hair loss, but this problem can be prevented by adopting the following measures:

Central centrifugal cicatricial (scarring) alopecia: This type of hair loss occurs most often in women of African descent. It begins in the center of the scalp. As it progresses, the hair loss radiates out from the center of the scalp. The affected scalp becomes smooth and shiny. The hair loss can be very slow or rapid. When hair loss occurs quickly, the person may have tingling, burning, pain, or itching on the scalp. Treatment may help the hair re-grow if scarring has not occurred.
