Thyme is known to have anti-septic and anti-fungal properties, adding this herb to the list of treatments for damaging scalp ailments. Just add twenty to thirty drops of thyme oil to one ounce of your favorite moisturizing oil (jojoba, olive, almond, etc.) or create a thyme-infused oil by adding a handful or two of dried thyme to an eight ounce jar of oil. Seal the jar and store it in away from heat and light for at least three months (longer is better) before using.

Finasteride (Propecia): This medication is FDA approved for use in only men with androgenic hair loss. Finasteride is in a class of medications called 5-alpha reductase inhibitors. It is thought to help reduce hair loss by blocking the action of natural hormones in scalp hair follicles. Propecia is a lower-dose version of a commercially available drug called Proscar that helps shrink enlarged prostates in middle-aged and older men. Women of child-bearing potential should avoid finasteride. Propecia 1 mg tablets are available by prescription and taken once daily. Propecia may grow and thicken hair to some extent for some people, but its main use is to keep (maintain) hair that’s still there. Studies have shown that this medication works well in some types of hair loss and must be used for about six to 12 months before full effects are determined. This medication does not “work” in days to weeks, and its onset of visible improvement tends to be gradual. It may be best for men who still have enough hair to retain but also can help some regrow hair. Possible but very unlikely side effects include impotence or a decreased sex drive (libido). Studies have shown that these side effects were possibly slightly more common than seen in the general population and are reversible when the drug is stopped. The cost is about $70-$100/month, which is generally not reimbursed by most health insurers.

Do they work? In a way. Red light has been shown to be anti-inflammatory, which takes care of one of the scalp problems that can contribute to hair loss. Also, it promotes healthy hair growth. But as far as turning around balding in a noticeable way, the results can be limited.
When Heidi Imhof started losing her hair at 42, she also started losing sleep. Ms. Imhof, a lawyer, was afraid that blow-drying her straight dark hair would hasten the shedding, so she got up two hours early to shower and apply mousse and volumizers. When her hair finally air-dried, she’d pull it back, hoping to hide the bald patches on her scalp.
Jojoba oil is known for its moisturizing and hydrating properties. It stimulates hair growth by improving blood circulation and moisturizing the hair follicles. It also repairs dry and damaged hair (13).
This has been in use of decades in the hair restoration field. The test conducted in 2011 confirmed that this treatment is suitable for both male and female. It is extremely effective for the Alopecia Areata patients who on a regular basis instead take steroid injections. The results gained by the treatment are very promising. You get to notice the changes in a single office visit
In clinical studies of mostly white women aged 18-45 years with mild to moderate degrees of hair loss, the following response to minoxidil was reported: 19% of women reported moderate hair growth after using minoxidil for 8 months (19% had moderate regrowth; 40% had minimal regrowth). This compares with 7% of women reporting moderate hair regrowth after using the placebo, the liquid without the active ingredient in it, for 8 months (7% had moderate regrowth, 33% had minimal regrowth).

Shikakai, a shrub native to warmer regions of Asia, has been used for thousands of years as an herbal hair cleanser and hair loss preventative. All aerial parts of the plant can be ground into powder or dried for later use. By itself, shikakai powder added to water or oil can be massaged into hair and scalp to promote new growth, strengthen roots, and clear up skin conditions like dandruff which may cause hair-loss.

Hi James, the Regrowth Treatment is meant to be applied to the scalp to absorb in so you can start using at anytime even on a shaved head. Just be sure to quickly rub it in after application as the treatment is a liquid and may run with no hair to contain it. Be sure to use 2 x a day for 2-3 months to begin to see results
