Hi, great article. I have an aggressive form of MPB. I am 23 year old with a NW2 hairline, diffuse thinning over the top and crown. Been on 5% Minoxidil and 2% Keto for about 9 months. Went through a period of shedding which has reduced somewhat in the last couple of months. I don’t see any appreciable increase in density anywhere but I do see plenty of thin vellus hair at my hairline. I am waiting for the 1 year mark to see the full effect of this regime. Is there like a test you can do to assess hairfall? Or do we just have to count the hair lost in the shower? Do you reckon I should start the Fin to hold on the the hair I have? Like most guys (actually a bit more than most guys seeing that I am young) I worry a lot about being in the 2% who experience disastrous sides from Fin. I do plan to check my DHT levels before I start, if I do at all, to see if I naturally have high/low DHT. That should tell me what to expect, to an extent.
Though we think our hair is super important, our bodies consider it nonessential (read: we don’t need it to stay conscious). Other bodily functions, like breathing, are more pressing and get first access to the nutrients in our diet. Our hair gets the leftovers. Protein is your hair’s best friend, so reach for healthy protein such as eggs and fish and avoid fasting or yoyo dieting. These can deprive your body of these essential building blocks for a healthy scalp and hair. Wild salmon, tuna and trout are packed with omega-3 fatty acids that help provide moisture and prevent dry and brittle hair. Foods rich in B vitamins also help keep hair follicles healthy, decreasing the risk for hair loss. Fruits and vegetables, and beans and lean meat sources, such as chicken or turkey breast, are all great sources for vitamin B.
I will write more later, but this morning, I confirmed that YES this is working. It’s totally working. I have new growth all over the “test” area (I was afraid of the dread shed) where I was using it. It’s been about 6 weeks. The growth is healthy–these are thick, normal hairs. I tried a bunch of natural stuff before this. I was freaking out, thinking there were wigs in my future. My hair is still falling out a lot, but to see regrowth is such an incredible relief. I just want to put this out there to everyone who is struggling with hair loss, for whatever reason–i don’t care what the studies say–this is abundant regrowth. And it’s definitely from the romaine. Not crazy about putting chemicals on my head every day, but the stress and worry about my hair was almost definitely more toxic than whatever is in this. No side effects that I’ve noticed.
Yes. Hyperandrogenism, a medical condition characterized by excessive production of male hormones called androgens, can cause hair loss in affected women. The most common cause of hyperandrogenism in women is functional ovarian hyperandrogenism, also known as polycystic ovary syndrome. In addition to hair loss, other signs include obesity, acne, and irregular menstruation, and it is one of the most common causes of infertility.
Try licorice root paste, which has properties that may help soothe the scalp and help reduce irritation. Mix ground licorice root (1 tablespoon), saffron (quarter teaspoon) and a cup of milk. Apply the mixture on bald areas, cover and leave it on overnight. Rinse off in the morning and repeat once or twice a week.
For household chemical products, there is no current regulatory requirement that companies disclose full ingredient lists. For personal care products, ingredient disclosure is required, although it may include generic ingredient names that are not specific enough to support hazard evaluation. To create an incentive for full ingredient disclosure, GoodGuide caps a product’s score if it lacks complete ingredient data or lists generic names that do not support chemical-specific evaluations. The caps applied are described in the following table:
For one, it is feared that should new hairs grow from hair cloning, these may not necessarily look like the rest of your hair. These may either be thicker or have a different color. The hairs may be lighter or darker than the old hairs.
The exact process by which this occurs is not known. Regaine for Women Regular Strength works best in women who have general hair thinning of the scalp. Those who are younger or have been losing hair for a short period of time are likely to respond best to Regaine for Women Regular Strength.
While minoxidil has been clinically proven to slow the progression of hair loss and regrow some hair, most informed experts see it as a relatively marginally effective drug in the fight against hair loss. Since minoxidil has no effect on the hormonal process of hair loss its positive effects are at best temporary and usually yield somewhat disappointing long-term results.
A really good way to prevent male-pattern baldness is to prevent damage to the hair shaft. Hair shaft damage could be prevented by keeping the scalp moist. Most products can leave your scalp dry with their toxic chemicals. The best organic and natural hair growth products are gentle and designed to grow back your hair in a healthy way. That’s why all of our hair growth products are all-natural.
My results are better than I had hoped for! I am a 53 year old woman and 4 years post menopause. I was experiencing slight thinning over that time. However, over the past few months the hair loss significantly picked up. I had a total bald spot about the size of three quarters north of my temples. I have no family history of hair loss. I had my thyroid checked, and it was fine. My primary care physician suggested I see my gyn for hormone level evaluations. I did not want to go down that path. Fortunately, I saw a coupon for Women’s Rogaine. I was not aware the product existed. I have been using it for six weeks and the bald spots have filled in very densely. I get up every morning and feel so relieved to see more hair growth. Thank you Rogaine! I feel so fortunate!

Although a fever technically is any body temperature above the normal of 98.6 F (37 C), in practice, a person is usually not considered to have a significant fever until the temperature is above 100.4 F (38 C). Fever is part of the body’s own disease-fighting arsenal; rising body temperatures apparently are capable of killing off many disease-producing organisms.
Finasteride (Propecia). This prescription drug is available only to men. It’s taken daily in pill form. Many men taking finasteride experience a slowing of hair loss, and some may show some new hair growth. You need to keep taking it to retain benefits.
I have a rather unique story and thought I would share it. First, I chose Equate for the simple reason I am paying substantially less than I would had I purchased a brand name with the same ingredient, Minixodil, and strength. With that said, I purchased Equate and started using it immediately after bilateral hernia surgery. I was under anesthesia and read a few reports that anesthesia, may cause temporary thinning of hair. My hair is thin and if I were to lose some hair, even if it was temporary, I am sure it would make me uncomfortable. So, I figured, why not use Minixodil for what I believed would strengthen and prevent hairs that may be vulnerable to falling out, not fall out. And being I never used it, maybe add some thickness to my hair. Here is where I got VERY lucky. Minixodil, works its magic on the Crown (Vertex) of the head or scalp. (I have heard from people who used it claim they saw thickness towards the top) For me, I not only saw thickness in the Crown area, but also top and front and I figured out why this happened. Some time ago, I had hair transplants. My doctor moved hair from the crown (the donor sites) to the front and top. (he did an unbelievable job by the way). There is not doubt, some of the transplants did not hold, and it is to be expected, but won’t be noticed once the regrowth starts taking place. It is also important to note, it is not so much that Minixodil works its magic on the crown area of the scalp, but rather, it is the hair follicles that are located in the crown area of the scalp are genetically coded to NOT fall out. (unlike the follicles on top and front of scalp). So, the transplants that were moved to the front of my head, and the ones that didn’t take hold, it is my belief that Minixodil stimulated those dormant follicles to grow hair. Hence, I had growth on the top and front, as well as the crown area of my scalp. In addition, I was ready to get another round of hair transplants and would have, but due to an unforeseen, and serious event, that plan came to a screeching halt. However, with this other unexpected event, that is, the unexpected hair growth, my hair looks pretty awesome. All I expected was to keep my hair from thinning a bit, “if” in fact, the anesthesia might cause that to happen. Talk about luck. Anyway, for the price, do try it. Also, it was early in my third month that I started to notice the regrowth. In addition, I have heard that people who have recently started losing hair in the front, even a year past, Minixodil may stimulate the growth of those areas. Best of luck, Guys and Girls, and remember, if you start to freak out over hair loss, DON’T. I am not here to sell or promote Hair Transplantation, but….. they work.
There’s been a revolution in biology. Armed with powerful new tools, scientists are learning how to read the complex chemical languages of the body, including how to coin new treatments for hair loss.
They’ve come a long way. It takes time and research to find the right one, though, because there’s a wide range in cost and quality. And hairpieces also need regular maintenance, which can run between $60 and $300 per month. When you’re shopping for one, try to match your own hair color, thickness, and curl.
I’m 33 and I still have quite a full hair line. I was facing mild hair loss until recently I’m noticing a lot of shedding, I’ve been on Propecia for the past year though. I’m not sure if Propecia is not effective on me anymore or it was kind of limiting hair fall until now. I’m even doubting that it could be MPB but do you think The Big Three would also help even if it wasn’t an MPB case?
Ive been using Bosley 2% for about 4 months. I have seen improvements in that the hairs at my crown are growing and my hair actually feels and looks fuller. It could be a combination of the shampoo, mousse and 2% working together. What I appreciated the most was that I had questions about this product and someone from Bosley called me and was kind enough to explain the regrowth process to me and to me that is value. I tried the competitive brand and when I called their service line the rep was trying to sell me products and read off a cue card. I was not convinced to continue using their product. The Bosley 2% application can be a bit messy that is my only complaint. As much as one tries to apply directly to scalp it is hard not to get product on the hair. I suffer a mild form of female pattern thinning but even so I would recommend the use of this product to anyone and as with any treatment it does take time to see results.
Eat zinc-rich foods, such as oysters, lobster and fortified cereals. Zinc deficiency can cause hair loss which is why you should ensure you are getting enough of this mineral from your daily diet.

Laser treatment companies, which claim their devices can reverse shrinking of the follicles, stimulate hair growth and more, are also targeting women with caps and combs. Now on Finestride, I can visibly feel that the hair strands are getting thicker – so that gives a slight dense appearance (obviously, I can’t expect more than that after week 10, realistically) with the hair-fall completely stopped.
Hello, that is a great question. It is not recommended to use during Chemo, but it is safe to use after Chemo. We do however recommend consulting your physician prior to using. After you consult with your physician, I would recommend going to the website and using our consultation tool to find the recommended system.

On the other hand, if you choose a natural product, be sure to choose one that uses scientific research on which to base its formulas. Look for a treatment system that is approved by the FDA or Health Canada, and one that has proved its effectiveness during clinical trials. However, non-drug based products do not require FDA approval, but needed to be registered.
What worked for me was doing nothing about losing my hair and just letting nature take its course. My hair started receding in my early 20s, but only a little, then it stopped for about 30 years. Then in my early 50s my hair started receding and thinning very rapidly again. I panicked until my wife told me she loves bald men and had been wishing I would go bald. She talked me into just letting myself go bald. In less than two years I went from norwood 2 or 3 to norwood 6. I don’t regret my decision to go bald and have no desire to regrow my hair. My wife and I really enjoyed watching my hair recede and thin away. I love being bald and you couldn’t pay me to regrow my hair. In retrospect, I wish I had kept on balding in my 20s all the way to norwood 7.
