Male pattern baldness (also known as androgenic alopecia) is estimated to affect about 50 million men in the United States. It starts with hair loss above the temples generating the typical “M” shape. Over time, the loss of hair continues around the top of the head and sometimes claims the hair on the sides and rear of the head as well, leading to complete baldness. If you experience male pattern baldness and do not feel comfortable with your appearance, there are certain treatment options available.

The proteolytic enzymes found in aloe vera gel remove the dead cell build-up from your scalp and also stimulate your hair follicles. Aloe vera is packed with nutrients that improve hair growth and texture and hydrate your hair and scalp (22, 23).
Jojoba oil is known for its moisturizing and hydrating properties. It stimulates hair growth by improving blood circulation and moisturizing the hair follicles. It also repairs dry and damaged hair (13).
Diagnosis can include blood work to test for nutrient deficiencies, scalp examination (looking at patterns and shapes of hair loss, possibly a skin biopsy) and gathering medical, lifestyle and family information.
What minoxidil does is it stimulates your hair follicles to grow anywhere you apply it on your body. It works by widening blood vessels, allowing more oxygen, nutrients, and blood to the follicle. However, it does nothing to prevent the DHT from shrinking your hair follicles.
Kobren encourages women interested in using minoxidil to buy it over-the-counter to save money. Lots of companies will add minoxidil to expensive shampoos and charge top dollar, he says, when straight minoxidil is available for much less money at regular pharmacies.
Harklinikken does not advertise, but the 25-year-old multinational company is beginning an aggressive expansion into the $3.6 billion hair-loss market in the United States, meaning you’re likely to hear a lot more about it. A New York clinic opened in June inside the Core Club in Midtown (you don’t need to be a member to get an appointment); and in August, Harklinikken consultations became available at some 70 Women’s Care Florida obstetrics and gynecology clinics. (Roughly 75 percent of the company’s 50,000 active users are female.)
Telogen effluvium: In this condition, emotional or physical stress pushes large numbers of growing hairs into a resting phase. Within a few months, the affected hairs may fall out suddenly when simply combing or washing your hair.

According to this website http://www.bernsteinmedical.com/answers/does-propecia-work-in-older-men/ finasteride may me less effective in ‘regrowing’ new hair – but just as effective at preventing further loss in older men.
No matter what hair type you have, organic and natural products works for everybody. Lets start with African-American hair; this hair type is often flat and twisted. African-American hair has the lowest water absorption level and the lowest tensile strength. This means that African-American hair needs more moisture than any other hair type, and putting tension on the hair will surely cause hair breakage, which will lead to hair loss. Next is Asian hair; this hair type is almost circular. Asian hair may absorb an average amount of water but has the strongest tensile strength. Caucasian hair, on the other hand, absorbs the most amount of water but isn’t as strong. Finally, we have the mixed race hair, which may be any combination of the hair types.
Per experts, a normal human being can lose nearly 100 hair strands per day without any significant worry; however, losing more than 200 on a regular basis should attract immediate attention. Hair fall, if within normal limits, is a regular process. As new hair grow, old ones give way by falling off. Usually, lost hair are replaced by new ones from the same hair follicle. Nearly every man and woman desires long, thick, and strong hair. Every person wants his/her hair density to be high along with hair having high strength. Seldom you will find any person who wants to be bald. Although both the genders care equally cautious and worried about their hair, women having longer hair seem to be more concerned about hair loss. Hair loss is a common problem with men and women across the world. Few people who are very particular about their hair immediately resort to measures. Others who do not care about it eventually end up being bald or with patches. In many cases, people resort to gels, creams, oral medications, etc. You will be surprised to know about some home remedies that can help you with hair loss. Not only these home remedies can prevent hair loss, these can even promote hair growth, strength, and shine.
Use aromatherapy to make your scalp grow hair back naturally. A November 1998 “Archives of Dermatology” reports that 44 percent of 43 patients who applied a combination of oils to their scalp for seven months grew new hair on their scalp. Aromatherapy uses essential oils to open up your skin follicles and help your body produce keratin again.
This article is COMPREHENSIVE and sticks to the tried and tested (read scientifically proven) treatment methods. For me, if you’re suffering from pattern baldness, then the best chance you have is the Big Three. That said, it is worth potentially trying other, more natural, treatments if your hair loss isn’t aggressive and if you have an aversion to medicated products. I’m not talking about snake oil here. There are some treatments out there that, while not a primary treatment mode, can help to at least arrest hair loss in milder cases. As always with hair loss it’s a question of probabilities. I don’t think I’ve come across a product that works 100% of the time for 100% of the people. But the best chance undoubtedly comes with the FDA approved products to date. Also loved the future pipeline chart. Fantastic view of what will (hopefully) be more effective treatments in the future.
“Minoxidil definitely has an effect in most men,” Cotsarelis agrees. “It is not something a bald person would use, but someone starting to go bald would use it. The goal is to maintain the hair you have.”
