“The most important thing is to have a plan,” Nine Zero One hair colorist Morgan Parks told us. In other words, forget dying your hair the one color you think best reflects your natural shade, or diving headfirst into color-correction boot camp. Parks suggests taking baby steps, by softly blending your roots into your current color, then slowly adding soft touches of color over several months. Not only will it save the integrity of your hair, it’ll also make the transition easier on you, too. (Anyone who’s done it knows that a quick color change can be jarring, to say the least.) However, not all shades should be treated the same. So Parks, who regularly takes people back to a life of less maintenance, broke down the process for us.
Know the treatments for men. Hereditary-pattern baldness is the most common cause of hair loss. In men, it is most commonly characterised by a receding hairline that forms a rough “M” shape. Although it is not a disease and is based on your genes, there are treatments that your doctor can prescribe to you. The two medications most commonly used are:
Natural scalp treatments are not effective for many causes of hair loss. Baldness, or alopecia, is more common in men than in women and is generally by one or more factors, including age, hormonal changes, autoimmune conditions, illnesses or medications, genetics, trauma, iron or protein deficiency or rapid weight loss. Although natural treatments can be helpful in treating poor circulation or other skin conditions such as eczema or dandruff, these conditions are not linked to hair loss.

Vitamins A, E and B-complex are essential for healthy hair. Vitamin A is necessary for sebum production. Sebum deficiency can lead to hair loss as hair becomes brittle and dry. Vitamin E plays a vital role in repairing damaged hair follicles. Vitamin B-complex is responsible for the overall health and strength of hair. All these vitamins are found in fruits and green-leafy vegetables. So you should include them in your diet for strengthening your hair.
Though we think our hair is super important, our bodies consider it nonessential (read: we don’t need it to stay conscious). Other bodily functions, like breathing, are more pressing and get first access to the nutrients in our diet. Our hair gets the leftovers. Protein is your hair’s best friend, so reach for healthy protein such as eggs and fish and avoid fasting or yoyo dieting. These can deprive your body of these essential building blocks for a healthy scalp and hair. Wild salmon, tuna and trout are packed with omega-3 fatty acids that help provide moisture and prevent dry and brittle hair. Foods rich in B vitamins also help keep hair follicles healthy, decreasing the risk for hair loss. Fruits and vegetables, and beans and lean meat sources, such as chicken or turkey breast, are all great sources for vitamin B.
I desperately need help. I need to grow out my hair in three weeks for an event and I have tried these methods but they do not seem to be working for my hair (my hair hair is African, soft and natural). The coconut oil is working but it works so slowly on my hair, and it will take about two months to grow it out how I want at the rate it is growing. Please me with tips, hacks, tricks. Anything. And I cut my hair for another event one time so that also contributes to the slow hair growth. Please help, I really need to be there for the event!!!

Hi Lewis! Thanks for joining the discussion. I have a similar problem in that my hair at the back of my head take longer to grow than the front! I would try the inversion method and concentrate on these areas alone so you’ll be boosting the blood flow around the sides. Make sure you measure your hair before and after to see whether it’s worked on not. Remember, massage those sides every day for five minutes for seven days.
Great tips!! Thank you for providing valuable and practical information instead of pushing gimmicks for hair growth. And you’re right, scalp massage is one of the best ways to facilitate hair growth. Take care, Linda ?

Before reading all the tips and strategies that were suggested i had already been practicing a few that was mentioned. Before my beard amd head hair was very thin and wasnt growing any longer but now my hair is already about 3 inches long. Boiton was a huge factor in my journey. I take the 5000ml biotin pill with a one a day vitamin every day just to cover what my diet may be lacking. I also message my scalp once a day with miss jessies curl conditioner followed with cold water everyday . I will keep you updated on how far my hair comes.
Hi. Thanks for making this post. It was very helpful. I was wondering; are the inversion method results the EXACT same as not using oil in the inversion method? Thanks for your time in making this post.
Shrimps are a good option to include in diet chart for hair growth if you are avoiding red meat because of its high calorie content. Shrimps are also a good and rich source of proteins. Other than that shrimps also contain a good quantity of Vitamin B12, zinc and iron that also prevents hair breakage.

As you age, the hair follicle can shrink due to genetics or for a variety or reasons such as improper nutrition, harsh styling or cleansing products, chemical processing of the hair or just build up on the scalp. This can cause weak and fine hair which eventually falls out. The Keranique® Hair Regrowth Treatment acts to reactivate hair follicles and stimulate hair re-growth. The Keranique® Hair Regrowth Treatment is designed exclusively for women’s unique body chemistry, aggressively addressing hair rejuvenation and offering hair regrowth with continued use.
12. If you have bleached (or dry, super-fragile) hair, skip putting it up with a hair tie at all. One ponytail — one! — can give you what stylists refer to as a “chemical cut.” This is where your hair literally breaks off at the point of tension where the elastic ends up being wrapped around your hair to hold it into place. Instead, if you’re looking to work out and want your hair off your neck, gently twist your hair into a bun and clip it with a tiny claw clip, bobby pin, or larger pin.
Kinky hair – this is the hardest hair type to maintain. The reason for this is that it is weak due to fewer cuticle layers available to protect the hair. Being very fragile, it requires careful handling to prevent breakage or any other kind of damage. Kinky hair tends to have very tight curls and exhibits a lot of shrinkage after a wash.
A daily multi-vitamin should be part of your regular eating regimen, as well as an overall healthy diet full of fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean protein and plenty of water. What goes on inside your body definitely shows on the outside. As for additional supplements, some women swear by scalp treatments like Nioxin Intensive Therapy Follicle Booster or hair vitamins that contain Biotin. Do your due diligence and research before investing your time and money.
I tried a few of these tips on this page (mostly eating vitamins and brushing my hair) and it seems to work so far. My hair looks soooo much better as before too. I’ve been doing it for 2 months now and people see the change in my hair which is really nice.
When you apply topical treatments to your scalp, make sure that you don’t use them around clothes, furniture, or bedding that could either be ruined, or acquire an unpleasant odor from the treatments.

Ever since I was a teenager I’ve been some what follically changed with a very sluggish hair growth cycle. This is caused by a combination of genetics, over-styling and a low iron count, and my hair can go through phases of struggling to grow new hair so it needs a helping hand every now and then.
You can say that 95% of hair loss in men can be traced back to hormones, genetics or a combination of both. Specifically, the main culprit behind hair thinning is the hormone known as Dihydrotestosterone or DHT.
